13 - Shrines and Chapels In both corners of the sanctuary are marble shrines - to the left, the east side, the Shrine of St. Anne, the mother of our Blessed Lady, and to the right, the west side, St. Joachim, her father. Two side chapels form the transept and give the basilica its cruciform outline. On the left side, the east side of the nave, the chapel is dedicated to the honor of the Sacred Heart. On the right, or west side, the chapel is dedicated to St. Joseph.
